Malawi Queens leave tomorrow for World Cup, minister hopes for the best

Malawi Netball Coach Samuel Kanyenda has released a 13 member final squad ahead of Netball World Cup slated for July 28, in Capetown South Africa.

The players include captain Jane Chimaliro, Takondwa Rwazi, Thandie Galeta, Towels Vinkhumbo, Jessica mazengela, Sindi Simtowe, Martha Dambo,Grace Mwafulirwa, Laureen Ngwira, Mwayi Kumwenda, Joyce Mvula, Shabel Bengo and Madalitso Mkandawire.

The team is expected to leave the country tomorrow on 21 July 2023.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire visited the queens yesterday at Bingu National Stadium during their last training.

In his remarks, Mkandawire said government is aware of the challenges that the Queens are facing, cited the issue of training place that does not have good surface for the netball, the issue of external allowances that is not adequate for them.

The minister therefore, assured the Qeens that government is working on the issues as it is constructing the magnificent Griffin saenda sports complex that will be completed soon and also going to engage the Malawi National Council for Sports to increase the allowances.

Mkandawire encouraged the Queens to go and compete and putting Malawi on the map.

According to the Queens Captain, Jane Chimaliro commended the minister for the support and she promised to make Malawi proud.

“We have prepared very well, ready for the competition and we promise to do better in this world cup”, said Chimaliro.
