In an effort to uplift the face of Malawi’s capital City, the Lilongwe City Council is set to hold its first ever City Summit on 15 March 2023.
The summit will draw together relevant stakeholders where they will brainstorm on how to improve the city’s status.
Addressing members of the Press on Tuesday, Lilongwe City Mayor Richard Banda said the Summit has been organised after noting that city dwellers have been complaining about the status of the capital city.
“We sympathise with residents of the city that’s why we have called for this Summit so that we bang heads and see how best we can upgrade the city together,” said Banda.
According to Banda, the Summit is open to city residents and other key stakeholders interested to invest in the city’s infrastructure development.
Lilongwe City Council Chief Executive Officer Macloud Kadammanja has disclosed that the Summit has been budgeted at K40 iillion.
“We have entered into partnerships with several stakeholders that will help in financing this summit and we are still looking for more partnerships in the run up to the summit. We want to make this Summit a success,” said Kadammanja.
Meanwhile Kadammanja has called upon interested parties to come forward with ideas on how the council can improve the status of the Capital City.
“We see your posts on Facebook and other social media platforms complaining about the status of your capital city so this summit is for you to bring forth ideas on how best we can improve the status of this city,” said Kadammanja.
The Summit is being held under the theme; My City, My Responsibility, Together Building the City We Want.
The Summit is in line with the Malawi Vision 2063 of an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation.
