Spanish side Club Deportivo Leganes FC has vowed to support the development football in Malawi.
This has been revealed during a fruitful meeting between CD Leganes Chief Executive Officer Jeff Luhnow and Malawi’s state president Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
The meeting was held on Friday in New York, United States of America where Chakwera has gone to attend United Nations General Assembly.
When making his promises Luhnow said: “The demographics are in our favour. Africa and Malawi particularly has a youthful population. There is massive potential and football talent. We want to invest in football infrastructure, training and coaching. Malawi is a fertile ground for breeding world-class players. We want to use that opportunity,” said Luhnow.
Luhnow further revealed that his club wants to build five football academies across Africa worthy 50 million Euros and that Malawi will be the first beneficiary country.
American football scouting agent Kingsley Pungong, who was available during the meeting has urged Club Deportivo Leganes to utilize the opportunity of investing in Malawi’s football saying he has spotted potential in Malawi.
