Reported By Luke Chimwaza

A renowned lawyer who is also board chairman for Salima Sugar Counsel Wester Kosamu has paid school fees for 14 students from Chisawani zone in Thyolo North in the area of Inkosi Bvumbwe, who in the just released Primary school examination results were selected to secondary schools but could not make it due to financial reasons.

Speaking when he handed over a K3.2 million cheque, Kosamu said every community has people who are blessed and if those can bless others, Malawi can be a better place to be.

“Before studying law, i was a teacher and i have taught in several schools here at Bvumbwe. Now i noted that many students get selected to good national secondary schools but majority do not go due to financial hurdles, now here i am, blessed and with the ability to help i thought of coming here to help those that are needy.” Said Kosamu.

Kosamu further said much as he has helped the leaders with fees, he understands they also need other basic necessities, and has since called upon well wishers especially from Thyolo North to come together, join hands with him and form a bursary committee that will contribute towards the needs of the learners and open a bank account aimed at helping the needy students until they finish their secondary school education.

On his part, Primary Education Advisor (PEA) for Chisawani zone Mr Willy Malimba said the gesture will go a long way in addressing challenges deserving students. He has since asked parents, teachers, chiefs, church leaders to come together and support the initiative which is likely going to help needy students and motivate other learners in the process.

The needy learners have been selected secondary schools such as St Mary’s in Karonga, Likuni boys and Likuni Girls, Blantyre secondary school, Luchenza and Thyolo secondary.
