Karonga school leaders hail MERP’s school management trainings

In order to improve school administration affairs, Ministry of Education has embarked on training school leadership to empower them with new management skills.

After recently drilling school leaders from Dowa and Ntchisi districts in Mponela, Karonga is now hosting a similar activity.

The Director of Teacher Education and Development (DTED) Dr. Zizwa Msukuma, supported by Rose Kalizang’oma the Deputy Director who is also the Component Lead of the School Leadership Programme, officially opened batch 4 of the School Leadership Programme in the district.

Karonga alone has seen 414 school leaders comprising of head teachers, deputy head teachers and female Section Heads gathered to deepen their administrative skills.

The School Leadership Programme, which is one of the components for the Malawi Education Programme( MERP) targets to train 10,200 school leaders for primary schools in Malawi.

Management of resources and school administration skills are among some of the focal areas during the training.

Headteacher for Ngara Primary School, Vetta Chilongo hailed the initiative calling it ‘a stepping stone to improved service delivery in schools.

Apart from Head teachers and their deputies, School Leadership Programme also targets Primary Education Advisors and female Sectional heads, a development that has excited many teachers across the country.

Cumulatively, 2, 014 school leaders have now been trained.#Education is Key.
