Kamuzu Barracks (KB) held FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a goalless draw when they hosted the defending TNM Super League Champions at Civo Stadium on Saturday in Lilongwe.
KB maintained the same 11players that beat Karonga United 2-1, mid-week in the FDH Cup while Bullets made 5 changes to the side that defeated Ndirande Stars 4-0.
Bullets were the dominant side in the first half with the first sight at goal coming as early as the 4th minute when Patrick Mwaungulu latched onto a Gomezgani Chirwa cross which was parried away for a corner by KB’s Olson Kanjira.
The people’s team ended the half with 4 clear chances and 6 corners while KB having had a lot of defending to do only managed one clear chance through Kelvin Hanganda in the 8th minute.
KB began the second half with Alexander Cosmas and Gift M’mbwana for Christopher Mtambo and Kanjira, while Bullets waited until the 70th minute to replace Chawanangwa Gumbo and Mwaungulu for Precious Phiri and MacPharlane Mgwira.
Bullets struggled in the final third as they tried to break down the well-organized KB defence led by Mike Mtonyo who was eventually awarded man of the match.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach for KB Alick Chirwa decried the match officiating and stressed that his team should have carried the day.
“I feel that we should have won the game because we had the chances, however the boys were also tired following the trip from Karonga where we played in the FDH cup,”he said.
Chirwa further expressed optimism that striker Hanganda will soon get optimal help from fellow strikers who are set to return from injury.
Bullet’s Gaffer, Kalisto Pasuwa noted that his team did not create enough chances through-out the game.
“The opposition played with intensity, we both had few chances but it’s one of those results you get in a game therefore we need to go and do our homework in terms of our attacking prose.”
Pasuwa refuted concern over the team’s form on the road while also wondering why the team is denied penalties when they play away from home.
“I am not worried at all, this team is full of young stars, they need to know what is happening, that it’s only a phase that will come to an end and we can only judge them at the end of the season,” said Pasuwa.
Bullets will play Mighty Mukuru Wanderers next, on 1st July while KB will be hosted by Mighty Tigers on 2nd July.
