Kamoto Bids farewell to Airtel Malawi

Airtel Malawi Plc successfully on Tuesday wrapped up its 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM), marking the final appearance of Managing Director Charles Kamoto before he transitions to his new role as Managing Director of Airtel Tanzania.

Kamoto, who has been a driving force behind Airtel Malawi’s growth since joining in 2014, received accolades for his leadership and the solid foundation he leaves behind.

The AGM, chaired by Acting Chairperson Mark Mikwamba, addressed key concerns from minority shareholders and reinforced the company’s commitment to transparency and sustainable growth. This follows the company’s revision of its 2023 financial results, which included a review of US$-indexed tower lease contracts. Despite reporting a K15 billion after-tax loss for the year, the board assured shareholders of the company’s strong future prospects.

Reflecting on his time at Airtel Malawi, Kamoto, who began as Chief Commercial Officer before becoming Managing Director in 2016, expressed pride in the company’s achievements. saying Airtel Malawi is well-positioned for continued growth.

“Airtel Malawi remains committed to delivering value to its shareholders and customers, continuing its journey of innovation and excellence in the telecommunications industry,” Board Director Mark Mikwamba, who was also the acting Chairperson for the 25th AGM, said.

During his tenure, Kamoto played a key role in solidifying Airtel Malawi’s status as a market leader in the telecommunications industry, driving both innovation and value for shareholders and customers.

The company also highlighted its recent financial success, posting a K21.3 billion profit after tax for the half-year ending 30th June 2024—an impressive 16.7% growth compared to the results from the previous year. This reflects Airtel Malawi’s resilience and strategic outlook despite earlier financial challenges.

As Kamoto prepares to lead Airtel Tanzania, he leaves behind a legacy of excellence at Airtel Malawi, with board members and shareholders expressing gratitude for his impactful leadership and contributions to the company’s success.
