The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said that reports that UTM president Dalitso Kabambe will lead the alliance which the party is involved in are completely groundless.

In a statement released Thursday, the party’s national publicity secretary Shadric Namalomba sain in any event of an alliance with other parties, DPP president Peter Mutharika will be a presidential candidate.

“It is with great disappointment that we address the recent spread of false information regarding our party’s alliance talks. Certain individuals have intentionally spread deceptive propaganda in pursuit of their own personal agendas.

“We want to make it clear that allegations of Kabambe being selected to lead an alliance are completely groundless. Additionally, the insinuations that His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the Former President of the Republic of Malawi and President of Democratic Progressive Party is incapable of running for president due to health concerns are utterly unfounded. His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is in excellent health.

“Interestingly, these same individuals were previously advocating for the Age Limit bill, which aimed to prevent His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika from running for president. This reveals their persistent efforts to undermine our party’s leadership,” said

He added; “we want to make it clear tha regardless of any alliances, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will be our party’s presidential candidate.

“The decision for who will be running mate to His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is solely up to him, considering the best interests of our party and Malawi.
