People’s Party (PP) presidential candidate Joyce Banda has picked Khumbo Kachali, of Freedom Party, as her running mate in the forthcoming September general elections.
Banda arrived at the Bingu International Conference Center (BICC) alongside Kachale to present her nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
In 2012, Banda appointed Kachali as the country’s vice president, when she ascended to power following the death of Bingu wa Mutharika.
However, during the 2014 general elections, Banda dumped Kachale for a youthful Sosten Gwengwe as her running mate.
She lost the elections to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika.
21 presidential candidates are expected to present their nomination papers to contest in the general election.
