Aford legislator Yeremiah Chihana has rejected the party’s invitation to a disciplinary hearing scheduled for yesterday, Thursday, stating that the new party executive members do not have the authority to call him.

According to the party’s secretary general Linda Limbe, the Member of Parliament for Mzimba North was summoned following comments he made over the weekend in Blantyre at a rally led by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika.

During the rally at Njamba Freedom Park, Chihana stated that Aford leadership had decided to support Mutharika’s campaign for the 2025 Presidential Election.

In an interview with The Daily Times, Chihana said Limbe’s role is not recognized by the party’s constitution as such, she has no mandate to summon him for a hearing.

“It is difficult for me to be called by the acting SG, who is not provided for in our party constitution, and I do not know where they got the mandate to convene such a meeting. All those who called for the meeting are new and found me in the party. I will meet with the president and we will sort it out from there,” he said

Moreover, he stated to the paper that Mutharika is the sole president with the ability to revamp Malawi and address the nation’s socio-economic challenges.
