The Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza has committed a corruption case involving Vice President Saulos Chilima to the High Court’s Financial and Economic Crimes Division.
On November 25 last year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Chilima on charges related to businessman Zunneth Sattar.
He was released on bail the same day.
He was charged with six counts bordering on Corrupt practices by public Officer, advantage for using influence in regard to contracts and failing to make a full report to officers of the Bureau.
He is being accused of Corruptly receiving US$280, 000 from Zunneth Sattar and US$19 million for assisting Sattar’s company to get a contract from Malawi Defense Force and Malawi Police Service.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has hired veteran lawyer Mordecai Msiska to lead the prosecution team in the case.
