The Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu sitting at Lilongwe has granted bail to opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) central region vice president Alfred Gangata.
Arrested over the weekend, Gangata has been charged with falsifying tax records, forgery, uttering a false document, and concluding a transaction without a tax clearance certificate.
He pleased not guilty to all the charges.
When his lawyers, Felix Tambulasi and Chancy Gondwe applied for bail, the State did not object.
The Magistrate has ordered Gangata to produce two sureties each bonded at K2 million non cash and that he should be reporting to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) once every fortnight.
According to MRA head of corporate affairs Wilma Chalulu, their investigations established that Gangata allegedly prepared and used a falsified Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) number MRA/MTO-LIL/000952 bearing the name Alfred Ruwani Gangata trading as Master Security Services in order to meet the bidding process requirement advertised by Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
