Popular music artist Fredokiss whose real name is Penjani Kaluwa has pledged to empower youths in community development in Malawi.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Friday, Fredokiss explained that the initiative will create a platform for the youth to voice out developmental issues and bring change in their lives.

“The initiative is about youths coming together and identifying their problems at community and district level and working towards solutions,” said Fredokiss.

He said that the initiative will use diverse and flexible approaches in addressing the development challenges that are prevalent at community and district levels.

“Part of the key strategies will be advocacy in working towards the solution,” he said.

He further said he is ready to collaborate with the public and private sectors that are already working with the youths to bring the desired change in development.

Currently, he said has managed to mobilize youths from 21 districts with almost 21000 youths registered through online and offline platforms with his team.

“We have a team that is monitoring the online registration through WhatsApp groups as well as youths that have dedicated themselves in recruiting fellow youths that are not on social media for the course,” he said.

One of the youths registered for the initiative Patricia Chunga from Lilongwe highlighted the importance of the initiative saying most youths are silent on issues of development.

“the initiative will empower the youth and give them courage to change things in their communities,” said Chunga.

She also added that the initiative will create a platform for youths to share ideas and learn from each other on issues of development.

“Since the initiative will be happening in different districts, I will be learning skills and interacting with other youths and in so doing I will be able to handle issues on development,” added Chunga.
