Community health organizations in Salima have committed to take a leading role in disseminating positive information that will help to increase Covid-19 and Cholera vaccine uptake among people.
This was revealed on Monday in the district during a two-day orientation training for community health organizations front workers which was organized by Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam).
Speaking on behalf of the organizations, one of the participants and director for Sere Community Based Organization at traditional authority Kambwiri, Edson Shadrack Ngolomi Banda said myths and misconception about Covid-19 and Cholera have been one of the major constraints in a bid to sensitize the community on the importance of the vaccine.
“As community organizations working in health sector in Salima district, we vow to work tirelessly to help government to dispel myths and misconception surrounding Covid-19 in order to encourage the community to take the vaccine,” Banda said.
On her part FPAM service provider in Salima Frolence Gondwe said describe the training as a milestone in the fight against Covid-19, hence they decided to engage and train community health front line workers.
In her remarks principal prevention and case management officer for Covid-19 and Cholera secretariat Deliwe Banda Chipeta said the community volunteers were targeted since are always trusted among people and good to counter misconceptions and myths which are going around their respective areas.
Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam) is implementing Covid-19 response mechanism project with support from global fund through Action Aid in the country.
