Members of the Film Association of Malawi on Saturday joined in supporting survivors of Cyclone Freddy in Blantyre by donating clothes, blankets and food items at Maera Primary school camp in Chileka.
The donation comes after a resource mobilisation initiative among members of the association and other well wishers.
Speaking during the donation, Vice President of the association, Ashukile Mwakisulu, expressed solace with the situation and prayed that their effort must open up more doors of support as the camp has not been supported since establishment.
“I hope that our gesture creates public image of the situation here. We know what we have brought may not be enough but our visit will surely create visibility so that the authority gets to know your case,” explained Mwakisulu.
The camp which has over 300 survivors has issues with sanitation and access to clean water.
According to the camps leadership of the camp, they are yet to get support from DoDMA or any other government or donor initiative.
A representative of the camp leadership, Abraham Ndalama, was appreciative of FAMA’s support but was quick to point out that they need more.
