Precious Phiri scored a dramatic winner in stoppage time to give FCB Nyasa Big Bullets a much needed 1-0 FDH Bank Cup quarter final win against Civil Sporting Club.
Phiri who returned from a long spell injury, was introduced from the bench on 88th minute and it took just seven minutes for him to pounce on the ball from Lloyd Aaron into the back of the net.
Kalisto Pasuwa’s men found it difficult to break Civil Service United defence despite having a lion share of possession and all their five shots target in the entire 90 minutes, emanated from outside the box.
The Servants on the other hand were happy to sit at the back, with their only chance in the 67th minute when Charles Mafaiti’s rocket from free-kick kissed the crossbar.
With just nine minutes to 90 minutes, the visitors were reduced to ten men following second yellow card to Mafaiti.
The People’s team kept pushing until super substitute, Phiri secured a last-gasp winner to send Bullets into the semifinal stage of 2024 FDH Bank Cup.
Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa admitted that it wasn’t an easy match.
“definitely a tough opposition this campaign but the good thing is maybe we went throughout the 90 minutes also without conceding, and yes, they were playing very well and in each and every department, they were very solid. And unfortunately, maybe they lost concentration in the dying minutes of the game, and we got much needed result”
“These are a cup games, I can’t expect anything more than this. What you need is for one to go to the next round. I’m happy for them” said Pasuwa
His counterpart, Wilson Chidati did not hide his disappointment.
“very painful but it’s part of the game as civil we accept and look for the to the next assignments”
Bullets will face Moyale Barracks in the last 4 while Blue Eagles will take on Karonga United.
