FDH Bank plc has raised the stakes for the 2025 FDH Bank Cup — injecting a record K250 million into the competition, a staggering K100 million increase from last season’s K150 million sponsorship.
The announcement, made alongside the release of the tournament’s preliminary draw by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Tuesday, has sparked excitement and optimism across all football tiers in the country — from dusty grassroots pitches to elite Super League arenas.
The regional matches will be played between July 5 to 29, 2025 before another draw that will take place in August this year.
Speaking during the event FDH Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, Ronald Chimchere said the increment reflects the bank’s committiment towards uplifting the game of football at all levels in the country.
He said; “This increase is not just about money; it’s about belief — belief in Malawi’s footballing potential. We’ve seen raw talent, thrilling games, and communities come alive through this tournament. Our increased investment reflects our commitment to grow the game from the ground up.”
In an interview FAM General Secretary Alfred Gunda sent a clap on contentiment to FDH Bank, describing the tremendous increase as a milestone moment for Malawian football.
He said this year’s season would be competitive in regard with the team’s transformation and performances in their respect leagues.
“An increase of this magnitude is unprecedented in recent domestic cup history. It gives us more reason to believe that the FDH Bank Cup is fast becoming the heartbeat of competitive football across all tiers,” said Gunda.
Under the sponsorship the winninf team will pocket a whopping K45 million — up from last year’s purse — while the runners-up will earn K20 million and semi-finalists K8 million each.
Among other fixtures, PS Sporting will lock horns with QPL All Stars in the playoffs for a first-round berth, where Bangwe All Stars, Liberty FC, and Immigration FC await in the southern region.
A marquee matchup sees Ntopwa FC take on The Boyz FC, while Nsanje United squares off with Chilobwe United.
The Central Region sees TN Stars pitted against Namitete Zitha in a clash of contrasting styles. Airborne Rangers face Green Rangers in another regional highlight, while Mitundu Baptist prepares for a second-round encounter with either Mchinji Boma Strikers or Luannar FC.
Up North, Baka City are drawn against Chirambo FC, while Ekwendeni United, with their reputation for giant-killing acts, will face Sporting FC. One of the most anticipated pairings is Chipolopolo FC versus Eutin Kuseli Veterans — a match that promises to fill stands.
Meanwhile, Eastern Region giants Red Lions await the winner between Changalume Barracks and MMF Marines in the second round. Namikango Mission takes on Becks Academy, and Prison United face off with Ntaja FC.
