With a day to go before the kick-off of the 4-Nations tournament, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says it is prepared enough to host a highly competitive and successful tournament.
“We have finalized our preparations, we have involved all relevant stakeholders that are key to the execution of the tournament and we believe we are going to have a very competitive and successful one” Madalitso Kuyera, FAM first Vice President told the media on Tuesday.
Kuyera has further warned against violence and hooliganism during matches saying anyone caught in such acts will face the law.
The Malawi senior national team will host Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe at Bingu National stadium in Lilongwe between March 23-26.
For the junior’s, games were supposed to begin on 21st March but the schedule has been changed due to Zambia Under 20 withdrawal.
As such the revised one will see the format changing from knockout to round robin and will start on Wednesday March 20 and not Thursday March 21, 2024 as earlier announced.
The Under 20 matches has also been moved from Bingu National Stadium to Silver Stadium.
Malawi Under 20 coach Bob Mpinganjira said his team is ready and in fighting form ahead of tomorrow’s opener against Zimbabwe.
He added that the tournament will be vital as they eye building up a strong team for the future.
“it’s a very good development to have this competitions, new players will definitely get international exposure and it will help us build the strong team” said Mpinganjira
His counterpart of Zimbabwe, Simon Marange has described the tournament as an opportunity to bring back their culture, integrity and pride of playing for the Zimbabwe juniors.
The Young Warriors arrived in the country on Sunday and are expected to make a return after three years of inactive.
