Residents of Chikomba Village , Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza district celebrated the opening of a new borehole this week, marking a major milestone in their efforts to improve access to clean, reliable water.

This follows a research done by organization in October 2022 which revealed that the area has been lacking access to clean, safe drinking water essential for human health and well-being.

“This borehole is going to make such a huge difference for our community,” said one of the local resident Mrs Maria Phiri . “Before, we were relying on well water that was often contaminated and made us sick. Now, we have a source of water that we can trust to be safe and clean.”

Speaking during the handover of the borehole, Hilal Afrika Malawi Project Manager Yusuf Muhammad Telela said it was sad to note that many communities in Malawi, face challenges in accessing clean water.

Telela commended the community for their support and cooperation during drilling of the borehole. He was confident that this new source of clean water will make a significant positive impact on the health and well-being of the community.

”At Hilal Afrika, we are committed to working towards a world where every community has access to clean water. We are proud to be able to support the community here by providing this borehole, which will provide a reliable source of clean water for the community”, he said.

Telela expressed hope that the borehole will serve the community well for many years to come, and I look forward to continuing to work with the community to address other important development challenges.
