The two Commissioners of Police Rhoda Manjolo responsible for Central East Region and Babra Mchenga Tsiga responsible for Research and Planning at Malawi National Police Headquarters have toured Malomo location in Ntchisi on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 to inspect a Police Unit which is under construction but nearing completion stage.

The project is being funded by Community members led by Area Development Committee (ADC) and expected to be operational any time sooner.

Accompanied by the Officer In-Charge for Ntchisi Police Station, Emily Kaludzu, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), both Commissioners inspected both buildings of Police and Victim Support Unit.

Speaking on the meeting, Manjolo commended the community through their ADC for the good job that will see Police Officers working in a suitable environment and advised them to believe in dialogue whenever they have misunderstandings.

Manjolo who reached Malomo in the afternoon after inspecting Mkaika Mobile Camp in Nkhotakota in the morning said it was a sigh of relief to see the police structure of Malomo after seeing dilapidated structure of Mkaika PMS camp.

She further narrated more problems of her region which includes, offices, houses, mobility, hospital, to mention just a few.

“Malomo is one of the fastest growing trading centres and needs such a magnificent structure of Police which demonstrates how a Police Unit should look like”, Manjolo said.

Concurring to the first speaker, Tsiga advised the community never to repeat their act of torching a police structure again as they did in 2019 that lendered their community insecure for a while.

She further promised to take all what she gathered to the Inspector General of Police for action .

Tsiga arrived at the formation later as well after inspecting Kasakula Police Unit in Ntchisi which is said to be in a pathetic condition for officers to work in.

Representing the community, Chairperson of Malomo Area Development Committee, (ADC), Mr. Andrew Kachande said the community has learnt a greater lesson not worthy repeating the mistake and they know value of security in development that’s why they have built the new Police structures.

Meanwhile Malomo Police Unit operates from the bus depot with no office space nor single officer’s house since 2019 when their structure was burnt by angry citizens.
