Minister of Homeland Security Ezekiel Ching’oma engaged stakeholders from the Lilongwe East and Mpenu Nkhoma constituencies on Saturday to highlight the true state of development projects that the government has implemented over the past four years.
Ching’oma, who is also the Member of Parliament for Lilongwe East, was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Transport Steve Baba Malondera, Lilongwe Mpenu Nkhoma constituency MP Collins Kajawa, and Lilongwe Central legislator Lobin Lowe.
During the meeting, which included party leaders, chiefs, and religious leaders, Ching’oma unpacked the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by President Lazarus Chakwera.
He stated that despite criticism regarding some projects mentioned in the SONA, specifically that they are still at the foundation level, Chakwera has accomplished a great deal for the country.
Ching’oma assured stakeholders that the government will complete all the projects highlighted in the SONA, including housing for security officers.
He emphasized that while the opposition focuses on one or two issues, the President has initiated numerous projects.
“There are many initiatives the President has undertaken, amounting to thousands, but the opposition chooses to spotlight just two or three that are still in progress. I want to assure the public that this leadership is not swayed by opposition criticism. Chakwera will continue to develop Malawi and is poised to win the upcoming elections,” he stated.
On the issue of security, Ching’oma mentioned that his ministry has implemented measures to ensure the safety of both people and property.
Reverend Yohane Nyongani of the Malawi United Methodist Church acknowledged the government’s development efforts and urged religious leaders to promote peace and unity for the country’s progress.
“We need to engage in development actively. We must join hands with the government and preach love and peace among ourselves so we can collectively advance Malawi,” he said.
Senior Chief Mazengela expressed his satisfaction with the government’s achievements over the past four years.
“I am pleased with our discussions, particularly our shared view that we have witnessed significant changes in Lilongwe over the last four years. There are numerous development projects that have been completed, and others are underway. We need to unite to ensure the continuation of these developments,” he remarked.
