High Court Judge Redson Kapindu has set next month, August 1 as the date Vice President Saulos Chilima is expected to take plea in a case in which he is being accused of corruption.
Chilima was supposed to take plea on Monday morning but his legal team led by former Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale they did not have enough time to study the charges before coming to court.
He also said the defence wanted the State to provide them with disclosures first before Chilima takes plea.
Justice Kapindu has also set July 19 as the date when the court will rule whether to waive bail conditions or not.
The defence want the court to waive bail conditions where Chilima reports to the ACB once every three months and has his passport withheld by the court.
On November 25 last year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Chilima on charges related to businessman Zunneth Sattar.
He was released on bail the same day.
He was charged with six counts bordering on Corrupt practices by public Officer, advantage for using influence in regard to contracts and failing to make a full report to officers of the Bureau.
He is being accused of Corruptly receiving US$280, 000 from Zunneth Sattar and US$19 million for assisting Sattar’s company to get a contract from Malawi Defense Force and Malawi Police Service.
