Alliance for Democracy (Aford) president Enock Chihana has said that he will scrape off the Affordable Inputs Program (AIP), one the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led alliance is voted into power.
Chihana said apart from the position of the country’s second vice president, he will also be appointed Minister of agriculture, according to their alliance terms.
In an interview with Zodiak Online soon after the alliance announcement, Chihana said AIP has failed to achieve its intended purpose.
“We will find an alternative program to replace AIP,” he said.
AIP is a government initiative that provides subsidized fertilizer and seed to smallholder farmers. It aims to improve agricultural productivity and food security by making essential inputs more accessible and affordable.
The program is a successor to the Farm Input Subsidy Program (FISP) and was first implemented in the 2020/2021 agricultural season.
