President Lazarus Chakwera has encouraged the newly sworn in members of the Complaints Tribunal of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to discharge their duties with integrity and competence and do it for the good of the country.
The President made the remarks Thursday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during a swearing in ceremony for the first ever Complaints Tribunal of the NIS.
Three member namely; Justice Prof. Redson Kapindu, human rights activist Sarai Chisala and former security officer, Brentant Chitanda have been sworn in.
“The law establishes the National Intelligence Service as an independent state of institution that reports to the President according to Section 3 of the Act.
“Today, we, the Malawian people are putting on your shoulders a crucial responsibility of upholding justice, fairness and accountability within the operations of the NIS,” said Chakwera.
Chakwera said he has all the confidence that the individuals sworn in are of exceptional calibre and will, undoubtedly, contribute to the Tribunal’s ability to address complaints in a just and impartial manner.
He warned against the use of the NIS as a tool for carrying out political agenda saying it exists to serve Malawians.
“I have utmost faith in your capabilities and my advice to you is to simply do the task you have been given today, to do it well, diligently, to do it passionately and for the good of the county,” said Chakwera
