The Commissioner of Police responsible for Central West Region (CWR) Emmanuel Soko has urged all officers to participate in sporting and physical activities, regardless of either rank or gender.

He was speaking on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the official launch of the Commissioner’s trophy at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Said Commissioner Soko: “Let the best teams win but always bear in mind that we are one family despite belonging to different stations. We must exercise the spirit of fairness and oneness”.

He also hinted that the launch had been postponed on several times due to the demands of work within the region.

In his welcoming remarks, the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee Assistant Superintendent Mike Chasweka explained that 10 teams have already started competing for the trophy.

The rival stations Kanengo and Lingadzi squared off during the official launch.

In Football Lingadzi won 5-2, whereas in Netball and Volleyball, Kanengo won by 31 baskets to 25 baskets, and 2 sets to one, respectively.

The other games that form part of the Commissioner’s trophy are Athletics, Darts, Chess and Tug-of-war.

The launch was spiced by several dances including Bodybuilding exhibitors and Tug of War competition by C division. The District Commissioner for Lilongwe Dr Lawford Palani was also in attendance.

The teams which will be participating in the CWR Commissioner’s trophy are: Lilongwe, Kanengo, Lumbadzi, Kawale, Lingadzi, Mchinji, Dedza, Ntcheu, Namizana and the CWR (which includes C division).
