Catalyst Gaming Group (CGG) is set to host an electronic sports (eSports) festival at Glalle Garden in Lilongwe on November 11 this year to promote the gaming and eSports industry in Malawi.

Recently founded, CGG is an eSports group dedicated to developing eSports as a recognized sport whilst promoting the growth of competitive gaming in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency on Monday, Wamaka Neba, one of the organizers of the event, said the festival will include FIFA 24 (FC24) knockout and Mortal Kombat 11 tournaments.

“The FC24 players can secure their spot at a fee of K20,000 whereas the Mortal Kombat 11 player fee is K10,000.

“Three winners of the FC24 knockout will walk away with cash prizes amounting to K400,000, K200,000 and K100,000 while two winners of Mortal Kombat 11 will go home with K150,000 and K50,000 respectively,” said Neba.

He further expressed the group’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in eSports events, saying that the fest is open to all age groups and that they will offer ten free spots for girl-gamers to encourage female engagement.

One of the country’s celebrated artists and CGG’s brand ambassador, Malinga Mafia, urged all gamers in the country to patronize the event.

“Get prepared for the FC24 raffle draw which will allow the winner to play an exhibition match against me and get a participation fee refund upon winning,” said Mafia.
