CapeStars salutes the role of media

HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality has saluted the media’s role in building strong economies and communities by keeping people informed, educated and entertained.

The company, through its CapeStars alcoholic spirits brand, offered support to Misa Malawi during this year’s World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) celebrations which took place in Mangochi over the weekend.

CapeStars offered free cocktails during the award presentation gala at Sunbird Nkopola and provided support during the mix and mingle event which the Trivia Media Hub, a social grouping of journalists across Malawi, organised.

HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality chairperson Wilkins Mijiga said of the partnership: “Caperstars is determined to promote the spirit of friendship among professional colleagues in the media as indeed in all other trades, to enhance and elevate collaboration, networking and peer learning for high performance.”

A member of the Trivia Media Hub Virinyu Dzimbiri, of Dzimwe Radio, said the support from CapeStars helped them cover some costs and made the event feasible by allowing journalists to attend without further financial burden.

“We don’t take the support from CapeStars for granted. Hosting such gatherings can be expensive and our contributions, especially in these hard financial times may be inadequate to meet all our needs and logistics,” he said.

Virinyu said the get-together was designed to be an occasion where journalists can meet socially over drinks and meals.

Virinyu said: “We represent different media houses and are based all over the country. The occasion allows us to meet as a group, share notes and celebrate the World Press Freedom Day in a relaxed atmosphere where we are all equals.”
