Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his Mary are not linked with R106 million theft, according to testimony by a South African State witness, Sibongile Mnzinyathi in the ongoing extradition case.
Mzinyathi, who is also Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Gauteng Province was being cross-examined by defense lawyer Wapona Kita.
Kita argued that the company which was involved in the theft, Rising Estate Limited is not connected with the Bushiris and if anything, they are also victims of the scheme.
He banked his argument on the March 2023 audit.
Kitta further argued that out of the 13 offenses that his clients are answering, only three are extraditable.
He said there is also no relevance as per section 5 of the Extradition Act of Malawi that these offenses constitute an offense in both countries.
The two are being wanted to answer various money-related charges in South Africa.
In the case, the state wants to commence the extradition process for the two after the South African government had applied to the Malawi government to have the two extradited to the Rainbow nation
Bushiri and his wife Mary fled South Africa in 2020.
