Balaka Police Station has registered an eight percent crime rate increase in the first half of the year, as compared to the same period last year.
Speaking during Station Executive Committee (SEC) meeting in the district, Balaka Seargent Macdonald Namtowa said there have been 318 cases registered from January to June this year, against 295 cases registered in 2022.
Namtowa however said that the district has registered a decrease in cases of defilement, from fourteen to twelve cases.
In his remarks Balaka Second Grade Magistrate Peter Mkuzi has expressed concern over increased withdrawal of cases by victims saying this is affecting delivery of justice and also increases crime and corruption among those who do such malpractice.
Mkuzi applauded the police and other stakeholders in the district for working together for Balaka to be free from crimes.
