Former President Peter Mutharika has called calls for dialogues that enhance understanding and reconciliation among various cultural and religious groups in Malawi.
In his Ramadan message, the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president said peace and tolerance should guide the country’s efforts for unity, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
“The commencement of Ramadan, a sacred time for the Muslim community, began on March 1, 2025, in Malawi. This month is significant for its practices of fasting, prayer, Quran recitation, and reflection on one’s relationship with Allah. It embodies discipline, spiritual awakening, and community bonding.
“As Ramadan starts, we extend heartfelt wishes to our Muslim brothers and sisters. May this period inspire prayers for peace, tolerance, and unity in our nation. Ramadan encourages us to foster solidarity and collaboration for the betterment of society.
“This month also urges us to seek divine guidance in addressing pressing challenges like poverty, hunger, and despair among our youth. It offers a chance for introspection on our responsibilities as citizens. Through prayer and dedication
