The TEVET Authority has organised the first-ever Tevet conference from the 20th to 21st of April 2023 where local and international key stakeholders in the Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) sector will build consensus on policies and strategies in the provision of skills development in Malawi.
Head of Corporate Affairs Lewis Msasa at TEVETA says the conference will provide a platform for all stakeholders to discuss and share the latest developments as well as come up with practical solutions to specific challenges in TEVET promotion.
“This national conference will further provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share and disseminate new knowledge and research findings on TEVET programmes; projects on skills development in the country and outcomes, and the future of Productivity Enhancement Programmes (PEP) Interventions,” said Msasa.
The conference will bring together both local and international experts, including key stakeholders drawn from government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the private sector, development partners, non-governmental organisations, training providers, TEVET graduates, and learners, with realization that they all have critical roles to play in the promotion of skills development in the country.
Said Msasa: “It is expected that the participating stakeholders will among others formulate recommendations on improvement of policies and practices in TEVET; determine a harnessed and unified approach amongst development partners in the identification of potential areas for partnerships and collaborations in TEVET; and share experiences for promotion of productivity improvements in organisations in Malawi.”
He added that this is in tandem with the Malawi Government’s efforts in championing skills development as one of the key enablers in the attainment of MW 2063 of ‘an inclusively wealthy and self-sustaining nation’.
Different stakeholders are said to have submitted their abstracts in some focal areas, which include Policy, quality assurance, assessment, and certification in TEVET; Global partnerships opportunities, coordination and collaboration and also Productivity enhancement.
“We will be joined by some external presenters including Zambia based president of Pan African Productivity Association, Cyprian Muyamba who will talk about embracing productivity at workplace,” said Msasa, adding: apart from key note address by a Namibia University of Science and Technology, Professor Noel Kufaine we have six presentations which will tackle various thematic areas for the conference,” added Msasa.
The conference will be held under the theme “Promoting TEVET for enhanced socio-economic development in Malawi.
