Telecommunications service provider Airtel Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting football in Malawi.
Ealier this year, Airtel Malawi announced an increase in prize money, for the eight top teams to compete for. The prize money has risen to MK35 million, up from MK30 million last year.
The tournament’s opener, which kicks off on Saturday afternoon, will feature defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who will face CRECK Sporting Club at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
In a statement signed by the company’s Head of Brands & Public Relations, Norah Chavula-Chirwa, Airtel Malawi is committed to raising the stakes and delivering an unforgettable football experience.
“This season, the prize money has climbed to an impressive K35 million, up from K30 million last year, setting the stage for fierce competition and inspiring performances. The Airtel Top 8 is more than just a tournament; it’s a celebration of talent, passion, and the unifying spirit of football. We’re excited to kickstart the remarkable energy and fierce competition that define this thrilling event, and we are thrilled to continue amplifying fan engagement through unique activities and rewards”, the statement reads.
This year, participating teams will receive a starter pack of MK3 million, up from MK2.5 million, while runners-up will take home MK12 million, an increase from K10 million.
The tournament is the eighth edition after being launched in 2017.
