Leading mobile money service provider, Airtel Money Africa, on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malawi’s digital transformation agenda following a high-level engagement with government officials aimed at accelerating the country’s shift toward a modern, inclusive financial ecosystem.

Airtel Money Africa Chief Executive Officer, Ian Ferrao, paid a courtesy visit to Airtel Money Malawi country offices.

As part of the visit, Ferrao also held discussions with the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralization Joseph Mwanamveka, on ways to strengthen collaboration in expanding digital financial services.

During the meeting, Ferrao emphasized the firm’s ongoing investment in building an integrated digital payments ecosystem designed to enhance financial inclusion, improve efficiency, and increase economic participation across Malawi.

Ferrao noted that Airtel Money continues to expand its agent network to create employment opportunities while simplifying merchant onboarding processes for micro, small, and medium enterprises.

“At Airtel Money, we remain committed to expanding digital access for all Malawians and ensuring every transaction is secure and reliable,” he said.

The Airtel Money Africa CEO also added that the company is intensifying consumer awareness campaigns on fraud prevention.

On the other end, Mwanamveka welcomed the company’s commitment, stressing that partnerships between the public and private sectors are essential in advancing Malawi’s digitalization goals.

“The collaboration aligns with the country’s broader development vision to modernize financial services, promote transparency, and expand financial inclusion. The discussions we have had reaffirms a shared commitment between the government and the private sector to build a modern digital economy capable of supporting long-term national development,” said Mwanamveka.

Officials from Airtel Malawi Plc and the Treasury were also present during the engagements.
