Over 180 golfers braved the heatwave on Saturday to be part of the Airtel Malawi Golf tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club in Lilongwe.
This was a record participation of a golf tournament at the Lilongwe Golf Club this far.
The tournament came after a similar one played in Blantyre in August this year. On Saturday, the tournament started with a tee off by Airtel Malawi’s Managing Director Charles Kamoto.
Chaona Kumbani was crowned champion in the ladies category whilst Kondwani Kachika won in the men’s Category.
In his speech after the tournament, Kamoto said he was very impressed with the turn out which was very encouraging.
“I am thrilled and impressed by the turn out of golfers to this tournament. As you may recall we were here back in 2017 so after a 6 year absence i think we couldn’t have asked for a better reception than this. I appreciate all golfers that took part in the tournament and i would like to congratulate all winners for a well deserved win”, said Kamoto.
Airtel Malawi has also donated MK1 million to Lilongwe Golf Club as a token of appreciation for the club’s commitment to keep the golf course in perfect shape.
Winners at the tournament received different prizes ranging from shopping vouchers to golf trolleys.
