As one way of supporting needy students in tertiary education facilities in the country and survivors of cyclone Freddy, leading telecommunications company Airtel Malawi has on Friday donated MK10 million through the Presidential Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday 21 October this year.

The Presidential golf tournament is an annual fundraising event aimed at bringing resources and funds together and helping the needy. This year’s tournament is themed ‘swing to serve ‘.

Speaking at the symbolic hand over ceremony of the donation, Airtel Malawi Managing Director Charles Kamoto said the President’s initiative aligns well with Airtel Malawi’s corporate social responsibility of supporting and uplifting communities.

“It is the responsibility of every Malawian to contribute towards the country development. Our efforts to re-build Malawi after the devastating effects of cyclone Freddy are at the center of our hearts. When the environment that we operate it is better, the economy is better, and we serve our customers better.” he said.

On the other hand, one of the fundraising committee members Norah Nsanja said the gesture by Airtel Malawi is commendable and the donation will go along way in aiding the said beneficiaries.

“We are very grateful to Airtel Malawi for heeding to the President’s call for support as he fundraises for the underprivileged especially victims of Cyclone Freddy and needy students pursuing tertiary education,” she said.
