Leading telecommunications and mobile money service provider, Airtel Africa, has expanded its 4G network reaching 70.7% of the population in the 14 countries it covers.
According to a Airtel Africa 2024 Sustainability Report released on Friday, this translates to a 4.9% increase since 2022/23.
The report highlights Airtel Africa’s progress across its key sustainability targets, including support for its people and communities, promoting financial and digital inclusion, and initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
Reacting to the development, Airtel Africa’s outgoing Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Ogunsanya said Airtel is proud as this growth has helped to support economic growth and development across the continent.
“I’m very proud of Airtel Africa’s strides in advancing our sustainability goals. While targets are vital to driving change, our mission is much bigger: to transform people’s lives through connectivity, products, and services fostering digital and financial inclusion while unlocking the potential of the next generation”, he said.

On top of the expanded 4G coverage, Airtel Africa continued to expand telecommunications services and registered a growth of customer base to 152.7 million across 14 markets.
