Airtel Malawi Plc has provided 20 university students with 4G routers and one year of unlimited internet connectivity to promote digital learning and develop cybersecurity talent in Malawi.
The initiative is part of the telecommunications company’s MWK22.6 million support for advancing digital learning and cybersecurity education, which also included MWK10 million to successfully host the 2026 National Cybersecurity Drill and Conference.
According to Airtel Malawi Head of Corporate Communications and CSR, Steven Kapoloma, the beneficiaries were selected by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) from the top five teams that excelled in the National Cybersecurity Competition held during the conference.
The competition attracted participants from 15 universities across the country, with the selected students coming from Mzuzu University, the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Blantyre International University, the University of Malawi and Daeyang University.
Kapoloma said reliable internet access is essential for young people pursuing careers in technology and innovation.
“Malawi’s future will be shaped by young people who can harness technology to solve problems, create opportunities and drive innovation. By providing these students with reliable internet access and connectivity tools, we are helping them continue their learning journey and build the digital skills required in an increasingly connected world,” Kapoloma said.
The initiative complements Airtel Malawi’s broader investments in education and digital inclusion, including programmes targeting students at different levels of the education system.
