Malawi Police Service Commission has promoted Commissioners Happy Mkandawire and Casper Chalera as Deputy Inspector Generals of Police responsible for Administration and Operations respectively.
According to a memo dated 1 September 2022, addressing all commissioners of Police, heads of branches, Police Training institutions, Mobile divisions and Stations, said the two IG deputies have been promoted following a resolution of the commission’s 408th meeting held on 29th of August 2022.
Chalera and Mkandawire will now be deputising the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Merlyn Yolamu who in August replaced Dr George Kainja who was recently fired by President Lazarus Chakwera.
The commission has further promoted six deputy commissioner to the rank of commissioners.
The six include; Commissioner Violate Magwaya, Rhoda Manjolo Emmanuel Dominic soko, Ackis Muwanga Noel Kayira and Babra Mchenga Tsiga.
