Out of 31 positions up for grabs at the Peoples Party (PP) national elective convention, 16 are going unopposed.
The competitive positions include president (Dr. Joyce Banda), vice president (Lawrence Bisika), secretary general (Ben Chakhame), director of elections (Andekuche Chanthunya), and director of women (Mable Masangamo).
The fight for the position of publicity secretary is between renowned broadcaster Wellington Kuntaja and legislator Ackson Kalaire.
However, the runner-up will still secure a position in the executive committee as the deputy publicity secretary.
The convention is set to be officially opened this afternoon by Banda, with the elections scheduled for tomorrow.
Convention chairperson Peter Kamange said the conference will be held under the theme “Restoring the hope: Building a brighter future together”.
“Meanwhile, the Party is grateful because of the overwhelming support it has received from the general membership in preparation for this important event. Many people have since collected nomination forms and are geared to contest for various positions during this elective assembly,” he said adding that over 1000 people are expectedto attend.
