Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola challenged a Member of Parliament (MP) on Tuesday morning, saying the country has a sufficient supply of electricity.
He referenced the MP’s well-groomed appearance as evidence of this claim.
The exchange occurred after an unknown MP shouted that the country lacked electricity while Matola was responding to a supplementary question from Rumphi West legislator Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire.
The main question posed by Mkandawire requested that the minister install transformers in various locations, including Bwanyonga, Hewe, Chankhalumu School, Matunkha CDSS, Lusani Health Centre, Kasere Health Centre, Kabulufu Trading Centre, Bata Trading Centre, Kayora Primary School, Lusani 1 & 2, Magalasi Primary School, and Kalakalaka as part of MAREP 10.
“Iwe akuzima kuti wameta iwe taona mpala wakowo. Wametera cha? Mesa magetsi omwewo?” Asked Matola
He added, “This man is provoking me. Can you see him? He is well-shaved because there is electricity.”
