President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu as Inspector General of the Police to replace George Kainja who was fired in June.

Her appointment, which is in line Section 154 (2) of Malawi’s Constitution, is subject to confirmation by Parliament.

Kainja was fired, and subsequently arrested, after he was implicated in a high profile corruption investigation by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the UK’s National Crimes Agency (NCA).
