Michael Usi has been sworn in as new Vice President of the Republic of Malawi replacing Saulos Klaus Chilima who died in a plane crash last week.
Usi who had been appointed yesterday, Thursday by the state President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has been sworn in today, Friday by His Lordship Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda who administered the Oath at Parliament building in Lilongwe.
State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, ambassadors, High Court and Supreme court Judges, speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, were among dignitaries who attended the inauguration ceremony as Usi begins the new chapter as State Vice President of the Republic of Malawi.
In his acceptance remarks, Usi who is serving as the Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change admitted that he received the news with mixture of sadness and gratitude.
“It has been less than a week since we gathered here to pay our respect to the soul of the late Vice President Saulos Chilima, and that fills me with sadness today”
“But as we all continue to nurse this sadness we share, definitely today is a reminder that God has not left us alone without comfort and has not left us orphans, it pleased you His Excellence to appoint me as the Vice President and with fear and trembling I accepted the appointment and I am very grateful” he said
Usi has further vowed to work hand in hand with the Chakwera’s led Government in a bid to create great future for the country.
Michael Bizwick Usi has become 7th vice president of the republic of Malawi, sixth after democraticy.
