By Lisa Kadango Malango in New York:

President, Lazarus Chakwera has said his government’s initiative to establish a specialized court to deal with financial crimes was a clear demonstration of his will to fight corruption in the country.

He said this Tuesday during the Democracy Delivers meeting alongside with US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken in New York.

Chakwera said the United States government which recognizes countries with practical solutions  to deal with corruption and authoritarianism has expressed satisfaction with the right direction Malawi has taken.

Malawi is reported to have demonstrated a strong resolve to fighting corruption, increased citizen participation and entrenching democracy and rule of law and commitment to empowering women and the youth in all areas  of life.

Democracy Delivers forum is a United States’ Government initiative organ being implemented in partnership with Development Finance Corporation in recognizing and supporting governments fighting corruption at all levels.

Malawi’s President spoke highly of ending corruption and empowering women and youth saying his government is making tremendous strides for the betterment of the citizenry.

United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken invited President Lazarus Chakwera to the discussion considering his efforts for the demonstration Malawi has displayed in the fight against corruption and promoting rule of law.

President Chakwera assured the gathering that his government was committed to fighting and end corruption by strengthening transparency and accountability and making sure that the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) was fully independent.

He added that the establishment of the financial crimes court was soon to be completed and would play a critical role in championing government commitments.

Speaking earlier, US Secretary of State, Blinken assured the gathering that his government would continue supporting countries that are doing well in ending corruption among others.

Among other Countries incorporated by Democracy Delivers forum are Zambia, Moldova, Tanzania, Dominican Republic and Malawi included for the huge demonstration progress in fighting corruption, ending political repression and authoritarianism.

Later President Lazarus Chakwera met with United Stat Agency International Development (USAID) Administrator, Samantha Power to discuss key priorities for Malawi- USAID bilateral Partnership.
