Police in Kasungu have arrested two people for allegedly being found in possession of raw ivory at Nkhamenya in the district.
According to Kasungu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Joseph Kachikho, the two are Cosam Phiri, 68 and Malani Phiri, 30 and were arrested on November 27, 2022 at Nkhamenya hospital as they were looking for a market for two pieces of ivory.
“After receiving a tip-off, Parks and Wildlife Department officials posed as buyers and made a follow up and arrested the two while possessing 2 pieces of ivory weighing 20.1 kilogrammes. The pieces of ivory will be taken to wildlife experts for analysis,” he said
He said the two suspects will appear before court soon.
Cosmas and Malani hails from Chimodzimodzi Village, Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu.
