Police have arrested Vitumbiko Mhango, a 36-year-old primary school teacher, in connection with an Amazon online scam.
According to Deputy National Public Relations Officer Superintendent Harry Namwaza, he allegedly defrauded customers by collecting K2.4 million for goods that were never delivered. His arrest took place in Champhira, Mzimba District, just a day after another suspect was apprehended for similar offenses.
“The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has intensified investigations following numerous complaints from victims. MPS is urging anyone who has transacted with Mhango and not received their goods to report to the nearest police station.
“We anticipate further arrests as they continue to uncover the extent of the scam and gather evidence against those involved,” he said
Mhango hails from River Mtika Village, TA Chindi, in Mzimba District.
