Lilongwe-based Street Kids Choir has released a gospel album to fund the construction of a Children’s Center.

Titled “Dziko la Mtendere,” the album was produced by Siddy Wave of Glory Studio.

Project coordinator Chembekezo Kalonga says the album’s proceeds will be used to build a center for street kids.

“We have purchased 1.5 hectares of land along the bypass road (Area 46) earmarked for the project. To kick things off, we formed the choir and released the album.”

“In addition to selling it, we plan live performances in various churches and events. We hope the public will hire the choir for functions to help these children find shelter,” Kalonga, a former street kid, said.

In addition to accommodation, the center will include a school and clinic once completed.

Kalonga

Kalonga, rescued from the streets, began helping street children a few years ago.

“Street life is not good for children. Some friends and I were lucky to be rescued; otherwise we would be dead by now. I don’t want other children to go through what we did. I’m helping many children, some pregnant, others with children, all of them need our support.

“Even a little contribution can change their lives. If cared for, these street children can become productive citizens. There are lawyers, doctors, and others out there who were rescued from the streets; we can do the same for these children. We don’t need money contributions only—well-wishers can donate materials for the project,” he said.
