Reverend Alemekezeke Phiri is new MCC General Secretary

The Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) has announced the appointment of Rev. Alemekezeke Kenneth Chikondi PHIRI as the new General Secretary with effect from December 1, 2022.

Rev. Alemekezeke Phiri has replaced Bishop Dr. Gilford Immanuel Matonga who has successfully completed his term of office.

Speaking after being unveiled at the Council’s Phiri expressed his commitment to continue the success story of the MCC in ensuring that their role of being the prophetic voice and conscience of society is adhered to so that there’s truly a holistic human transmission in Malawi.

“I thank God for this grace that I have been appointed to serve as the new General Secretary for the Malawi Council of Churches. It is a very big position in a very big council comprising of 25 member churches so Iam excited and at the same time I know the enormity of task ahead of me.

MCC Executive Board Chair Rev. Dr Fanuel Magangani said; “as Rev. Alemekezeke Phiri takes over the General Secretary post, we at the Malawi Council of Churches covet our prayers so that he lead the Council into greater avenues of service and opportunities in these challenging times in the nation of Malawi”.

Rev. Alemekezeke Phiri is a qualified educator, experienced communicator, trainer, administrator, organizer, and community mobilizer. He is an ordained church minister in the Church of Central Africa, Presbyterian (Nkhoma Synod).

He has served in the church for 12 years as a Church Minister and a University Lecturer at Nkhoma University.

He did his post graduate studies at International Theological Seminary, Los Angeles, California form 2016-2018.
