As people around the world are celebrating the lives of women, Freedom of Worship and Economic Liberation (FOWEL) President, Prophet Dr. David Mbewe has called on the country’s leadership to take lead in changing the lives of the suffering Mothers.
In a Mother’s Day message titled “Arise, women of this day,” Mbewe said instead of celebrating motherhood, people toiling in poverty.
“In what was supposed to be a day where as a country we celebrate Motherhood, the story seems to be different.
“The country’s economic crisis is almost unprecedented in its severity. Sons and Daughters who were supposed to bring joy to their Mothers, have instead brought pain and suffering to the Mothers of Malawi.
“Malawi today, has subjected our Mothers to 19 hours of darkness due to the so called “prolonged load-shedding”. Today, our Mothers are failing to fend for their families because food prices keep soaring and time is being spent on long fuel quoeus.
“Our Mothers that are doing business are languishing, because their businesses have collapsed. Those involved in cross boarder business can’t transact anymore because the country has no forex,” he said
Mbewe added that corruption has been normalized even in high places.
“As we are taking now, the Affordable Input Program is uncertain and our mothers are facing a hopeless situation. The sad part is that, all these ills are being caused by their own sons and daughters. They were fed with promises and lies at a political podium. Our mothers are suffering and Malawi is bleeding.
“I therefore call upon all the mothers of Malawi to rise up and hold the Tonse alliance government accountable. The Tonse administration has failed Malawians including all Mothers.
“The question that we all have to ask now on behalf of our mothers of Malawi are; how long must we keep suffering?
“Therefore, I call upon President Lazarus Chakwera as a God fearing person, to take lead in changing the lives of our suffering Mothers.
“Chakwera and his Vice Saulos Chilima must step aside as Presidents for their respective parties and concentrate on managing the affairs of the country without promoting partisan interests.
“To all Mothers of Malawi, we join you in praying for our country. We urge you to set aside a day of national prayers and fasting to pray for Malawi and its leadership,” he said
