PAC nods to Yolamu’s appointment

The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) has voted in support of newly appointed Inspector General (IG) of Police Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu.

Yolamu was on Wednesday morning appeared before the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament where she was interviewed following her appointment as IG by President Lazarus Chakwera last week.

An inside source has told us that 17 members of the committee voted for Yolamu while 1 member voted against her.

Three members of the Committee did not cast their vote as they were engaged with other parliamentary duties.

Addresing reporters after the voting process, PAC Chairperson Joyce Chitsulo said the committee will a report to the whole House for Yolamu’s confirmation process on Friday.

Meanwhile Chitsulo has told reporters that the Committee sought guidance from ACB on allegations that Yolamu is implicated in the Zunneth Sattar corruption scandal and the graft busting body cleared her.
