A newly constructed Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in Mikate Village, Traditional Authority Kapichi, Thyolo District, is set to revolutionize access to early childhood education in the area.
Chipembere Community Development Organisation (CCDO) built the modern centre, which features two classrooms and an office, designed to accommodate 80 learners, as well as a separate structure with a toilet to promote hygiene and sanitation.
Group Village Headman Mikate expressed gratitude to CCDO for addressing the long-standing challenge of inadequate classroom facilities in the area.
He said many children had been missing out on early childhood education due to the lack of infrastructure.
“This initiative will go a long way in promoting education in our community,” he said.
According to Sandrina Chaplain, Project Officer at CCDO, the organisation’s mission is to strengthen the education sector and promote early learning opportunities.
Champlain added that the Mikate ECD Centre is part of CCDO’s efforts to improve access to quality education in Thyolo District.
“We also constructed an ECD facility in Mkalozwa and renovated one in Nchiramwera” She narrated.
According to the project officer ,the Mikate ECD Centre has already shown promising results, with 67 children enrolled. CCDO has also trained caregivers from Mikate, Mkalozwa, and Nchiramwera ECD centres, further supporting early childhood education in the district.
Communities praised the CCDO cited that this initiative demonstrates CCDO’s commitment to promoting education and development in Thyolo District.
